Surface roughness testers, or surface finish measuring instruments, are used to quickly and accurately verify surface characteristics (roughness and/or waviness). Surface finish measurement is straightforward and consists of performing a 2D–3D digitalization of the surface using a contact stylus with standardized geometry. The detector features a tip radius that traces the surface with nanometric resolution.
