Engineering and projects
In-line metrology provides the link and meeting point between quality and production on the shop floor; it stops being a final verdict on a planned and completed production activity and becomes a control tool that delivers reliability and process assurance, adapting to the cycle times set by production.
Carrying out control at the source, preventing errors from being generated, with the manufacturing objective of “zero defects”, or, where applicable, in the process where the error occurs, makes it possible to identify the cause and correct it before it moves on to the next stage.
Your challenges are our challenges
- Ensuring production line cycle times
- Develop turnkey multi-reference projects
- With minimal investment in tooling
- With a single probe configuration for all
references - Bulk delivery of parts, automatic recognition for loading in the measuring equipment
Technology and development
In line with the Lean manufacturing concept, at Sariki we offer solutions for process control with direct, connected measuring equipment:
- Connected at the input and communicating with (robots, loading systems, cranes, safety barriers and equivalents)
- Connected to the rest of the plant (traceability of input data with ERPs, MES production management programs, …)
- Connected at the output (traceability of output data to in-house SPC and export to customer-owned SPC, ERP, MES…)
- We integrate into automated lines with the possibility of adding sensors and, to some extent, intelligence (Smart Factory).
- We connect with robots and other automatic loading/unloading devices.
- We interact with production management systems, ERP, MES.
- We provide traceable data (barcodes, QR codes, for SPC processing and analysis).
- Servitization, new customer relationships (remote control, augmented reality).
- Hybridization of inspection/measurement technologies, machine vision.
Advantages
Our solutions are developed using flexible and universal, versatile measurement systems; programmable for a project’s life cycle, reprogrammable and adaptable for future projects.
The concept is based on replacing the current routine, manual tasks of multi-dimension inspection stations and checking fixtures with these flexible systems.
The operator has real-time monitoring of results, with information on the variability of measured characteristics (or dimensions) that are out of tolerance (for example, a missing hole due to tool breakage, etc.). They can carry out process variability control, enabling them to determine the behaviour of the process or the product batch, and they can perform go/no-go checks.
Experience and expertise
Experience has shown us that the machines Mitutoyo has designed for the shop floor perform at specification level even better than described in their catalogues.
Structurally, these are systems with linear transmission systems; they do not use air bearings, and they are protected and enclosed to withstand the environmental conditions typical of a plant. Likewise, they can operate at speeds and accelerations three times higher than conventional systems.
Sariki’s project team is multidisciplinary and has been developing customised solutions for 15 years. We have measurement experts, electronics specialists with integration capabilities, software developers… who, depending on the challenge, work with engineering firms/integrators proposed by the customer or Sariki’s usual partners to offer the best solution.
How do we work?
Analysis
We identify the challenge together with the customer and carry out a complete analysis of the requirements. We turn risk into success to achieve a true win-win.
Solution design
Thorough study of the parts to be measured within the project scope, drawings and 3D CAD, as well as the measurement plan defined by the customer, taking into account the drawing requirements. Approval of dimensions to be measured under the project, by part number. 3D measurement simulation within the machine volume, possible technology options, equipment models, and specification of elements for point acquisition.

Success story
The GKN Driveline Legazpi project focused on the challenge of measuring high-precision automotive components alongside cold-forming forges. The project was carried out during 2014.
