Yet this apparently simple concept covers notions not quite so easily grasped.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tResolution defined\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resolution is the smallest distance between two points on a laser line. The resolution specified for a scanner is always measured at the top of the field of view<\/strong> &#8211; it is the best theoretical value. During actual scanning, this value is practically never achieved. A scanner&#8217;s resolution depends on the resolution of its camera, unless there is interpolation of points (see below).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/schema-scanner-laser.jpg\" target=\"_self\" itemprop=\"url\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/schema-scanner-laser.jpg\" alt=\"schema-scanner-laser\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"795\" width=\"1100\" title=\"schema-scanner-laser\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n<h2>\n\t\tFiner resolution for more details\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p><strong>Scanner resolution directly impacts the density of the data captured (cloud of points)<\/strong> and hence the detail of the part reproduced.<\/p>\n<p>Metrologists look for a high resolution in the following cases:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scanning edges of thin parts<\/li>\n<li>Scanning engravings<\/li>\n<li>Scanning textures<\/li>\n<li>Scanning rough surfaces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/comparacion-resolucion-3d.jpg\" target=\"_self\" itemprop=\"url\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/comparacion-resolucion-3d.jpg\" alt=\"comparacion-resolucion-3d\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"706\" width=\"1300\" title=\"comparacion-resolucion-3d\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<h4>Starting with the launch of the Kreon Zephyr I scanner in 2003, up to the present with Skyline Eyes, resolution has quadrupled, from 100 \u00b5m to 25 \u00b5m.<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Comparacion-escaner-3d.jpg\" alt=\"Comparacion-escaner-3d\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"393\" width=\"1000\" title=\"Comparacion-escaner-3d\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n<h2>\n\t\tHow the shape of the field of view impacts resolution\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p><strong>The shape of the field of view affects resolution<\/strong> (see diagrams).<\/p>\n<p>If the field of view is a trapezium with sharply inclined edges, resolution drops very quickly as the scan nears the bottom of the field. <strong>Generally speaking, the wider the laser line, the smaller the extent to which the theoretical resolution will be reached.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/resolution-champs.jpg\" target=\"_self\" itemprop=\"url\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/resolution-champs.jpg\" alt=\"resolution-champs\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"746\" width=\"1000\" title=\"resolution-champs\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n<h2>\n\t\tInterpolated points?\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p><strong>Some scanners on the market, of limited camera resolution, compensate this lack by interpolating points<\/strong>. Interpolation means adding one or more calculated points between two points that have actually been scanned. These new virtual points are derived from the neighbouring points on the laser line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compared to a scan without interpolation, and at equivalent resolution, the details appear more blurred on a scan with interpolated points<\/strong>. Nevertheless, this process enhances the results of scanners fitted with low-resolution cameras.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/interpolated-points.jpg\" target=\"_self\" itemprop=\"url\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sariki.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/interpolated-points.jpg\" alt=\"interpolated-points\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"688\" width=\"994\" title=\"interpolated-points\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<h4>Not to be confused: resolution and precision<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>These two parameters do not reflect the same characteristics at all: precision describes the accuracy of points in space, while resolution refers to the density of points along a line. As these two do not correlate, a scanner can have low resolution but high precision, and vice versa.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<a
